The primary advantage of Hybrid Screening is its unparalleled process stability combined with high image fidelity. By leveraging AM Screening for the stable mid-tones and FM Screening for fine details, it drastically reduces the risk of Moire and Rosette patterns without introducing the severe press instability associated with running pure FM. This balance makes it highly valuable for complex packaging, ensuring both smooth gradients and sharp edges.
However, the main disadvantage lies in its complexity during Prepress. The transition between the AM and FM domains requires precise calibration and a sophisticated lithography software to manage the switch points seamlessly. The entire printing process must be meticulously controlled. While the technique is more forgiving than pure FM, it demands higher technical proficiency from the Prepress team compared to conventional AM Screening.
