Material and print technique impact on screen angle selection

How do the differences between Offset and Flexography printing and the type of packaging material affect Screen Angle selection?

The type of printing technique and packaging material are the two main factors determining Screen Angle selection. In Offset printing on coated paper, standard angles work well because the dots are placed on a smooth surface. However, in Flexography printing on plastic films or non-paper surfaces, standard angles may require readjustment due to the elasticity of the plates and the greater expansion of the dots.

The texture and structure of the material can also interfere with the Screen Angle pattern and cause Moire. For example, packaging made from fabric has its own natural patterns. Consultants recommend that in such cases, the technical team discover unusual angles for non-key colors through custom tests or shift towards FM Screening techniques (which eliminate the angle problem) to prevent quality failure.
