Evaluating print under non-print lights like Illuminant D65 or retail lighting is strongly discouraged because these lights have stronger blue components than the print standard, Illuminant D50. D50 is standardized for printing due to its spectral neutrality, ensuring colors are seen without deviation (blue or yellow color cast). Evaluation under D65 falsely makes printed whites and grays appear bluer, leading to incorrect color correction decisions.
Quality control officers must exclusively use Illuminant D50 as the Standard Illuminant to guarantee color consistency throughout production stages. Since a client's office or retail lighting is often close to D65, this color mismatch must be explained to the client. This transparent method prevents color disputes arising from non-standard ambient lights (such as D65 and Illuminant A) and maintains the product's color fidelity under correct control.
