Primary Challenge of Managing Seven-Color ICC Profiles in Gamut

What technical considerations are essential to ensure color accuracy in seven-color (CMYKOGV) and EGP systems?

The greatest technical challenge in EGP is the precise setup and maintenance of the seven-color ICC Profile, as the slightest fluctuation in the density of just one of the seven inks has catastrophic effects on the simulation of hundreds of spot colors. Unlike CMYK, process control in EGP must be performed with extremely high accuracy.

To overcome this, successful EGP implementation requires an accurate initial Fingerprinting and the use of automated quality control and measurement tools (like spectrophotometers) for daily stability of the seven inks. It should also be noted that EGP still has limitations for very specific colors with high Chroma (such as some fluorescents) and does not completely eliminate the need for custom spot inks.
