Register Control Strategies: Flexo vs Offset

How should register control strategies differ between offset and flexography printing?

Register control strategies must be tailored to the specific printing technology. For Flexography, which is inherently prone to register error due to the flexible nature of the plate and substrate, there is a strong recommendation to utilize specialized cameras and automatic register control systems. These systems monitor register marks and correct mechanical settings instantaneously to maintain stability.

In contrast, Offset Printing, due to the stability of the press mechanics, primarily relies on operator skill, procurement of high-quality materials, and ensuring the press is thoroughly overhauled and maintained. While manual adjustment is common, preventative maintenance and regular performance measurement of the press are the keys to sustained, accurate register and avoiding the need for constant corrections.
