Matte lamination films pose a significant challenge for subsequent finishing operations like Spot UV due to their low surface energy. This property hinders the proper adhesion of the UV varnish, which can lead to premature peeling or rapid abrasion of the UV coating. Therefore, the balance between the matte visual effect and the successful execution of later processes must be carefully maintained, and this entire sequence must be planned before production begins.
To resolve this common adhesion issue, you must ensure the chemical compatibility between the UV ink formulation and the specific laminating film type. It is highly recommended to use specialized Spot UV formulations that contain stronger primers, or to request that the printer treat the laminate surface (for example, with a Corona Treatment) to increase its surface energy and ensure coating durability.
